Aratools Arabic-English app good for
exactly what ive been looking for ..
even for someone who has been studying arabic for years, this will be very beneficial.
of course it doesnt contain every little thing i need (check out hans wehr arabic english dictionary for extra stuff)
but this does the job so well.
i wish in the future the put example sentences ..that will be super awesome !! :)
Excellent job of displaying vowels and root words. Suggestions: please update dictionary for more words and update the app to iOS 7 UI.
Finally a decent Arabic dictionary for the iPhone! All the others have basically been useless for me. This is the first dictionary I can actually use, and not just for the iPhone either, even among print dictionaries there is very little that is useful. As an upper beginner, this dictionary has been a godsend. One thing I particularly is that if I put in an inflection of a verb, it will give me the root. Excellent.
If I may make two small requests to the developers: 1) please increase the font size of the Arabic or allow it so the user can increase the site (either in the Apps setup) or within the app itself; and 2) I would like to have a history so I can return quickly to words I have already looked up instead of having to enter them again.
This is by far the best arabic dictionary I’ve tested. Apart from large vocabulary and the capability to look up arabic words virtually in any shape(conjugated, with various prefix or suffix) which is more than user-friendly but rather essential in learning arabic, the developer is very responsive and dedicated in trying to enhance and add new features, such as the URL scheme which allows you to seemlessly look up words directly from web articles(or any text). Recommend to all arabic learner.
This is, perhaps, the most useful dictionary tool you can find in arabic. Actually it seems to be the only hope finally to solve the extremely serious, and in some way theoretical, problem of dictionary in this language. Here are a few suggestions to complement this wonderful tool to achieve the above goal and make it a dictionary near to perfect, in stead of a mere morphological utility, which it rather is presently :
1- Provide , not only the first or most usually encountered ones, but also the other full senses and meanings of the words.
2- Provide the prepositions to be used by the verbs and complementing them.
3- Include idioms an locutions as much as possible
4- Show not only the main root but also of which derived form a searched verb-word is. This should be readily possible, since the software should inevitably determined it in reaching the main root.
5- Show the plural of a searched singular noun as well as the singular of a searched plural form which should, similarly, be readily possible.
6- Providing links to the full declinations of sought verbs and nouns would enhance the quality and add great value and usefulness to the application. The implementation of these features also should not be difficult since the required informations must, by necessity, exist in the database of the software.
7- Finally add as much usage examples as possible.
Surely implementing all of these suggestions is a hard task. But "aratools" seems to be the only application on which this can be done. The developers, apparently, established a most versatile basis and solid mould already, on which perfection can be built. Congratulations.
Some bad moments
i bought this app recently
very disappointed
not usable
many problems
it is not cheap but worse than free tools
This is more than a dictionary, it is like a morphological guide to Arabic words, breaking down the prefixes and suffixes and roots of what you give it.
The only oddity is that some 3 letter words give very strange roots that dont seem to be right, like بلغ giving a root of بلر. Aside from this, the program itself is excellent and highly recommended.
Pricey, yes. But this tool has proven invaluable to me as Arabic beginner in learning the complexities of the alphabet in conjunction with my beginner language learning courses. I must say a weakness is the small size of the fonts requiring and old man like myself magnification glasses for usage.
Please note: this is not a translator. It will not provide English translations of multi-word passages.
Overall, very good.
This is a revision to an earlier review I wrote and to raise my rating to 5 star. I have used this program for about 6 months now on a daily basis. I have used other electronic Arabic-English dictionaries in the past and this is hands-down the best. Being able to parse the morphology is even handier than I expected when I bought it. This is just an outstanding piece of work and resets the standard. I have notified the developer of a couple of root errors that I found which they gratefully accepted and corrected.
If they would just add an English > Arabic function it would move up into the luxury class.
When I purchased this, I didnt realize that "Arabic-English" meant "from Arabic to English" and only "from Arabic to English." I also foolishly believed the word "bilingual" implied "bidirectional" translations. Whoops. Aside from the bit of confusion and disappointment I experienced when I first purchased it, this is a great app. Although considering it only works in one direction I think it is overpriced by about $10. Im hoping that a future update will include English to Arabic translations as well, but I have a feeling thats pretty unlikely.
This is mumtaz, I getting through through books of arabiyyah and gaining a strong vocabulary
